Jacket Not Finished Yet, But...

I've been cleaning, so I haven't got a lot more done on my jacket.I'm actually reconsidering the trims as I'm not loving the trim along the center front as much as I do on the pockets. I've just got it pinned and I do think it needs something else to make it less pretty or precious or something.

I've braided yarns from the fabric together in various thicknesses and I may go in that direction.

However I did put this striped jacket/cardi together for my sewing group Thursday. I wanted to show them another version and in a lighter knit than the last one.

I must admit that I don't love it but my sewing friends seemed to like it. My husband got that look when I asked him what he thought ,so....

Anyway, my sewing group have named my sewing bag that I take along to class my "magic bag of goodies".One of the notions they are most impressed with is my Steam-a-Seam which I used to secure the facing of the cardi down.

I sometimes feel like Ron Collins, Sandra Betzina's partner in the Power Sewing web TV shows who uses S-a_S on everything he possibly can.I do love it a lot.A couple more of my favorite notions that I couldn't be without are my Fiskar spring loaded scissors ,which are so great for arthritic hands and my Clover Leaf chalk marker wheely thingy that I use so often for so many things.

Wow this is one all-over-the-place post! Sorry!

I do hope to have my jacket completed for Thursday as I'm giving a presentation about our trip to Paris to my Retired Teachers group and I think it would be such an appropriate thing to wear.

Have a great week, fellow sewers ! More later from

You have been busy and doing so much great sewing. I love the striped top. It would look wonderful with jeans or light summer pants.

I love Steam a Seam too :)

You have been busy. The jacket is coming right along and I really like your new striped cardigan.

What pattern is that cardigan? I really like it and need something like that that can be made in different weight knits.

Also, I think the trim on the pockets is great, even if you did no trim on the other edges. This may not be quite the look you want, so you can tell me to hush, I won't take offense. I can't wait to see what you do with it!

The striped cardigan is wonderful! Sometimes men just don't know what looks good. :) I tend to agree with you on the Chanel trim. What about incorporating the ribbon into the braided trim to break up all of the pink? Don't know if that would work or not, just a thought.

This doesn't look like not sewing much to me! Your jacket is most impressive.

I have those notions too on my favourite list! I have to agree that the striped top is not overly special ;/ And a thought for your "chanel" jacket - how about just using the trim on the pockets? Maybe add another set to match lower down. I really like the trim on the pockets but agree it is not so good on the edge. Have you seen Paco's latest jacket? It just has trim on pockets. http://pacoperaltarovira.blogspot.com/2011/04/chaqueta-anne-marie-en-barcelona.html

Your new sweater is fun! Bright and summery. I've been coming around to steam-a-seam in the last year or so. I used to feel like it was cheating, somehow. Like I should use tiny hand stitches instead or something. Um, whatever. Sometimes SAS does the job the best!

Diana -- your Easter "Chanel" jacket is beautiful , I agree with you about the fringe along the front, can't wait to see what you come up with. I love the pockets. ( If I'm correct I have some of that fabric from Julie at Timmel"s ) your blog keeps me close to the wonderful time we had with S Betzina.

I really like the braided trims on the jacket, and the striped top is fantastic! Great job!

I agree with you that the trim on pockets look great, but I am not sure that I like it down the front of the jacket. Love the pink fabric you can wear this with your white jeans you made for a great casual look too.

The striped cardi is cute, but guess it depends on what it looks like on - hard to judge on the dummy.

I did manage to get some steam a seam and it is good - hate picking it off afterward though.

Think it will not be long before I have to think about the scissors!!!

You certainly have been busy.

I can understand ... I play tricks - steam too, sometimes .... Love, love your Chanel jacket, It needs to end buttons, perhaps?

Your sewing class sounds like so much fun. It's so nice when you have those so willing to learn new things or expand their experience! I do like the striped cardi. I must have missed the last one.
