Vogue 8486 (for me)

I'm cheating a little because I actually made this dress about three weeks ago but I didn't get around to blogging about it.

I first saw this pattern made up in Vogue Patterns magazine in the June/July 2008 issue. I talked my self out of it because it was one of those patterns that you know would look better on a tall, willowy ,slim woman. You know you are not tall and slim, at least not since hitting fifty eleven years ago. Then , the same pattern is featured in the April/May 2009 issue and you still love it!

Well,I tried to talk myself out of it but I just had to make this dress. So here it is in a mini geometric cotton knit.It looks really nice on Antoinette ,my dress form.

I love the pleated detail at the scooped neckline.
.

It needed no zipper, just a loop and a button .

The whole thing, from cutting out to finishing the hem, took three hours!
Here it is on almost short, and not quite slim, little old me!

Now when you're 61, and you haven't exercised in a couple of months, you don't have the arms that look good in sleeveless. What do you do? You add a little cardigan and you're good to go!

I've already worn this little dress three times in three weeks! Do I like it? Yes I do. It's a keeper!

See more pics here!

Now, I'd like to know.At what age do you think a woman should stop wearing sleeveless?

Your dress looks beautiful on you! And to answer your question about sleeveless...as long as you have the confidence to do it...I say go for it! I have noticed at 50 that I am developing batwings despite exercise...I still wear sleeveless sometimes, though never at work!

You look wonderful. The dress is perfect and I love the fabric.
You "personally" really don't have to worry about the sleeveless issue.
At 61 you look fantastic :)
As long as you are OK with how you look that's all that matters :)
I missed you at Fabricville yesterday.
Have a great week end.

We are the same age! I think you look great in your dress. I know what you mean about the arms. I'm not comfortable showing mine anymore. Boo.

What a cute dress! I love that print fabric. Oh the arm thing, well, I don't think there is a set age as to when we stop wearing sleeveless. It all depends on how the arms look. Around the house is not an issue, to me, but out and about I think a cover-up such as the cardigan you chose is in order. Unless of course you are in the garden or fishing. haha

What an awesome dress! And go sleeveless if you want! I used to be self-conscious about my chubby arms...I have dimples in my elbows, just like my baby nephew! But in the grand scheme of things, there are lots bigger things to concern myself than my "baby arms" ;). Go sleeveless, and go with confidence!!

I really love it. Thanks for introducing us to the pattern. I think I may buy it soon for the long sleeved version.

You look fine. The dress came out great. Don't worry about the arms, they look good too. I was explaining to my husband about how women obsess over their upper arms. His response was..."I never notice women's arms unless they are weight lifters whose arms look like men's." Just as he would admire they popeye arms on a guy I suppose! (We are both late 50's) When So are we obsessing for nothing? We are all in the same boat when it comes to arms. My mom and her sisters were always warm even in winter so they wore sleeveless all year long and although they didn't have "bat wings" per se, they certainly didn't have thin arms. Wear what ever you want. And if it's any consolation, that 40 something woman who swam in the Olympics and trained 4 to 6 hous a day was on Jay Leno one night and guess what? There was some jiggle when she raised her arm.

The dress looks great on you. I love the fabric print.
As far as our arms are concerned I don't think anyone really cares except for us. I say wear what is comfortable for you be it sleeves or sleeveless. It gets really hot here, so there is no way in the summer I am wearing sleeves. Believe me I see much worst on the beach than my not quite flabby arms!

The dress looks lovely on you :) As for arms...yesterday I caught a glims of my underarms in the mirror and instantly thought that I need to wear sleeves from now on. Sob. From over the internet on the other side of the world, your arms look fine.
